English Language Center Open House
by: Ms. Rosalie Balmas, Web Content Writer/ ELC Lecturer

During the week of November 14-18, 2009 the English Language Center held an Open House.  Inspired by Acting Head of Department, Mr. Antonio Brown, the Open House was the first of its kind.  The aim of the Open House was to provide staff of the college with the opportunity to meet and get to know each other in an informal setting.  In addition, there have been many new additions to staff lately, and it has been evident that many staff members simply don’t know who’s who.  Mr. Antonio thought it would be beneficial to both the department and the college as a whole if stronger professional bonds were made amongst staff.

The Open House was a week long event, held daily from 12 to 3pm.  Staff members from other departments visited the ELC meeting and briefly chatting with ELC staff.  They also had the opportunity to enjoy light refreshments after making a round to the second ELC staff room.  There they were persuaded to participate in a simple raffle.  The raffle invited guests to answer questions about select ELC staff members, encouraging them to get to know different staff, as they had to go find the person and talk with them to get the correct answer.  Those with correct answers won a small prize.
