The Ministry of Manpower conducted an appreciation ceremony to appreciate three student companies who won local and regional prizes in 2019. IbriCT represented by the head of IEU, Mr Mohammed Al-Sakiti, and Elixir Soil team, was appreciated in the ceremony by His Excellency Sheikh Abullah bin Nasser Al-Bakri, the Minister of Manpower. This appreciation goes back to the participation of Elixier Soil team in the 6th Cairo International Exhibition of Innovation. The team won the second place within the international participations category. At the end of the ceremony, IbriCT team took a group picture with His Excellency the Minister of Manpower.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IEU), represented by two students, Majdi Al-Azri and Reem Al-Kalbania, participated in an innovation competition from 20 to 21 November 2019 in Muscat. It was organised by the Royal Army of Oman for encouraging students to create innovative ideas that could support the Armed Forces in Oman. On the first day, there was an exhibition for all students participating in the competition. They exhibited their innovative projects to the visitors. On the second day,  the Commander of Royal Army of oman, Major General Matar bin Salim bin Rashid AL-Bulushi, visited IbriCT corner to see the project being developed by Majdi and Reem, which is a “Smart Helmet”. He got satisfied with the functions of the “Smart Helmet” and how it can facilitate the work of soliders. At the end, there was an appreciation ceremony in which our team got the fourth place in the competition.

The Specialization Committee of the Business Studies Department organized a Specialization Orientation programme for the first year Diploma Business studies students on 12th November 2019. The purpose of this program was to help the students of Business Studies Department, who will move from Diploma year-I to year-II during semester-II of AY 2019-2020, to choose their specialization.

Dr. C. Loganathan (Human Resource Section) and Dr. Ammani Ammal (Accounting section) Specialization Committee coordinators arranged this program. 

In this program, Initially Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Ismaili – HOD, BDS- briefed the importance of choosing the Specialization. Mr. Sandeep Kale, Accounting Lecturer, delivered a speech regarding Accounting Specialization to our students. During this program, he provided more information related to the different levels, specializations available, and courses offered by Business studies Department. He added some more information related to the job opportunities in the area of Accounting specialization. 

Dr. Bijja Viswanath, HR/Marketing Lecturer, delivered a speech regarding Marketing Specialization to our students. He provided more information related to the different levels, specializations available, and courses offered by Business Studies Department. He added some more information related to the job opportunities for each specializations and on the job training. 

Dr. Vijay G Padaguri, HR lecturer, delivered a speech regarding Human Resource Specialization to our students he explained more information related to the different levels, specializations available, and courses offered by Business studies Department. He added some more information related to the job opportunities for each specializations and on the job training. 

Specialization Committee Coordinators concluded the program by clarifying the student’s doubts and by providing some important guidelines and advises which will help the students to choose their specialization.

In order to encourage an entrepreneurial culture among students, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit (IEU) organised a workshop  on “Funding and social insurance” on Sunday, 10th of Nobember 2019, from 08:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the VIP room. The targeted audience was students who are currently studying “Entrepreneruship” course. The main aim of the workshop was to enhance students’ knowledge on the services and facilities provided by Al Raffd Fund and the Public Authority for Social Insurance for entrepreneurs. The workshop was delivered by Mr Fadhil Al-Saidi, from Al Raffd Fund, and Mr Mohammed Al-Kalbani, from the Public Authority for Social Insurance. At the end of the workshop, the head of IEU, Mr Mohammed Al-Sakiti, gave a certificate of appreciation to the speakers thanking them for being part of the workshop.

TheInnovation and Entrepreneurship Unit (IEU), represented by the head of IEU, Mr Mohammed Al-Sakiti, and  Elixir Soil team, participated in the 6th Cairo International Exhibition of Innovation from 24 to 25 October 2019, Egypt. The Elixir Soil team presented their project which is converting fish waste into fertilizer. Many visitors got impressed with this creative ideas as it solves a real environmental problem we are facing these days.  In the ending ceremony, Elixir Soil team won the second place within the international participations category.

The head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit (IEU), Mr Mohammed Al-Sakiti, delivered an awareness session on “How to Choose Your Specialization” on Thursday, 17th of October 2019, at Al-Ghaliya bint Nasser School, Ibri. The targeted audience was 10th grade school students. The main aim of the session was to make students aware of the current trends in the job market. The speaker, Mr Mohammed, motivated the students to focus more on such areas as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Business Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), 3D Printing, etc. At the end of the session, the director of the school, Ms Sheikha Al-Mahrooqi, gave a memento of appreciation to the speaker thanking him for being part of the awarenss session.

Dr. Vijay G Padaguri and Mr.Syed Akram Pasha from Business Studies Department, IbriCT presented, a paper titled, " Co-facilitation in higher education: An incremental flipped classroom approach " at the 5th Teaching and Learning Conference, Sohar University, held on 12th September, 2019. This conceptual paper analysed the tremendous scope for the ideation and implementation of co-facilitation in higher education and tried to examine, explore and suggest strategies to optimally utilize the co-facilitation approach.

The Business Studies Department, represented by the HoD, Mr Omar Al-Balushi, participated in the International Conference on “Practical Education and Internationalization in Higher Education” from 6 to 7 October 2019 at Muscat University. The main aim of the conference was to encourage the sharing of experiences and perspectives which will help the Sultanate to bridge the gap between higher education and the industry. Both local and international speakers delivered presentations on different issues related to the higher education sector.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit (IEU) organised an awareness program on “Entrepreneurship Development” on Tuesday, 1st of October 2019, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the VIP room. It was delivered by Mr Qais Al-Balushi, Assistant Manager of Training Programs at Oman Academy for SMEs. The awareness program focused on several topics, including the definition of entrepreneurship, success stories of Omani entrepreneurs, sources of business ideas, Small and Medium Entreprises (SMEs) and how to develop a business model. It was attended by 57 students from the three academic departments at the college. At the end of the program, Mr Mohammed Al-Sakiti, head of IEU, gave a certificate of appreciation to the presenter.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit (IEU) organised a brainstorming session on Tuesday, 24th September 2019, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the VIP room. The head of the IEU, Mr Mohammed Al-Sakiti, handled the brainstorming session, which was attended by 10 students from the three academic departments. The main aim of the session was to generate creative ideas to be implemented during the current academic year 2019/2020. The session focused on different areas, including entrepreneurship, technical skills, graduation projects, creativity and innovation.
